I think the way the cams move and therefore the order of the Fl is not
really relevant..... it is the way it was designed to move...and keep in
mind the TE and the WATE are marketed for 3 FL only.  So why make the opto
mechanical arrangement more difficult and complex?

Look at some recent zooms and you see really weird movements as you change
FL or distance.

OTOH, Henning is usually right........

It's even easy to tell the TE can't be a zoom because the order of 
focal lengths is: 28-50-35. Can't have a zoom with that arrangement.
