Thanks Steve (and George and Robert). I don't live there now but have
a lot of friends in the area and sail there every summer. Looks like
the Eel Pond shot is the favorite so far though watching that duck
swimming through the skim ice was a bit mind blowing. Made me wonder
for his/her sanity. Duck fat must be the world's best insulator.

I'm really pleased with the D300 though I'm still climbing the
learning curve with it. Reliable focus in dim light is still an issue
(I don't use the focus assist lamp) and it occasionally overexposes a
couple of stops in bright light. Even with spot focus and holding it
with a half-push on the shutter doesn't always work when the light is
low.

Image quality is top-notch. Auto white balance is good. I haven't
yet tried either extreme of the ISO range yet (that is beyond
200-3200). At 3200 there is noticeable chroma noise in the darker
parts of a picture but that can be controlled by forcing it into black
when it's a issue. It's a handful to carry, but what really capable
DSLR isn't these days? It was nice not to have to worry about water
getting into it in the snow.

I'm planning some focus tests to see if I can resolve the focus
issue. Don't really know what to think about the overexposures yet.

Regards,

Dick
