My mother's family has a family reunion EVERY June. Periodically, one
of the cousins suggests that it be changed to every two years.

It usually turns out that the complainant feels inconvenienced coming
every year. Rather than feel like they are missing something, they
want to limit the system. The solution is always -- if you want to
come every other year, help yourself -- don't ask everyone else to
stay home because you are busy.

Sometimes, participation here is inconvenient for me, I don't have
time to read everything and look at all the pictures. I don't ask
everyone to shut it down until I have the time to be there. I just
skip the participation.

I noticed that I overparticipate some while back, so stopped doing
the "thank yous." I do, however, believe that public "nice jobs" are
important feedback. I suspect all of us remember the days when we
were starting taking pictures and how important the reaction of an
audience was in steering us toward better photos even when the only
feedback was which ahots drew a smile and which did not. This
audience produces the same benefit on a higher level.

There are times when a simple "atta boy" from Tina or Dory or Hoppy
or someone else has made me look at a picture again and see something
I had not noticed before.

And, yes, I use it just like a chat room or a bar stool.

This list IS family -- not everyone gets along with the same people
-- everyone has their favorite cousins. Just like a family, you don't
really get to choose who is in it. Your only option is to sit at the
table with the ones you enjoy or opt out of the family. I prefer
choosing tables.
