Good Lord, Nathan! A Butterball, that most popular of American
turkeys, in a fridge in Holland! You picked up a good American
tradition while you were here. I hadn't realized Thanksgiving had
penetrated the Continent, though I do have friends in England who
celebrate the holiday (she's British, he's American).

The Brits do recognize at least one other American holiday that I'm
aware of, the 4th of July. It may be a rueful memory for them, but
on the 4th a few years ago as I was tooling down the M1 from the Lake
District to Cambridge, the BBC was playing American music from the
40's and 50's as a toast to Independence Day and David Frost was
opining on American culture and ideals.

But that was then and today is Turkey Day. I'm off a bit later for
dinner with friends and will do Thanksgiving #2 with family on Saturday.

So, a Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow celebrants and may the
spirit of the holiday spread to all.
