Not at all, Chris. Evaluate the offered opinions, shoot some more and see 
what works for you. Do the grab shot, then engage your
subject with a hello or donation for example and see what appears as they 
are involved. A smile goes a long way. People in shops,
buskers (sitting ducks really), restaurant staff, whatever. You will get 
some no's along the way, and with persistence some pleasing
images. That's what I'm starting to attempt anyway. Don't forget to share 
the pictures with us.

You are right it not been clear what she is looking at - actually she
was looking at me as I said smile for the camera! In any case my
experiment clearly didn't work and I need to return to a safer genre.
