Interesting.  I have owned several of these.  The 
most I ever paid for one was $5 from eBay about a decade back.

You will note that the company making this is 
"K?hn" in Wetzlar.  Knut K?hn was the husband of 
Else K?hn-Leitz, a daughter of Ernst Leitz II and 
the sister of Ludwig Leitz, the oestensible 
father of the M series, and of Ernst Leitz 
III.  Else was the one who was tossed into a 
concentration camp for some weeks during the War for her anti-Nazi rhetoric.

The Flexameter is an answer to a question no one 
ever asked.  It has generally been presumed that 
Ernst Leitz II funded the company to make these 
just to keep Knut out of trouble.  These were 
made in massive numbers and are a worthy addition 
to any Leitz collector's holdings.

And why are we reading a FS ad on a Tuesday?
