Japan's largest stone Torii gate. 50+ buildings, each one by itself
may qualify for the World Heritage label. 5 major temple compounds,
some Buddhists, some Shinto, within stone throws of each other. While
the Temple Maidens major duties nowadays seem to sell protection
charms, the temples are still used for daily worship. The place where
the tomb of the first Tokogawa shogun lies and where the sacred White
Horse still lives. The travel posters say, "Nikkou is Nippon." This
is the heart of the Japan.
