I have 2 Genuine Leica batteries and 4 cheap knockoff batteries.
One of the Genuine Leica batteries has failed in the way that you describe.
None of the cheap knockoff batteries has failed.

I just got back an hour ago from 3 weeks of travel in which I used all of 
the 
batteries and shot thousands and thousands of pictures and put all of the 
batteries to the test. The cheap batteries were more reliable.
