The canal which connects London to Birmingham was completed in 1800 except 
for the aqueduct where they made do with seven 
temporary locks. In 1805 the aqueduct, an all brick construction, was 
finally finished but leaks occurred almost immediately and 
in 1808 the arches collapsed. It was rebuilt using the cast iron 'trunk' in 
1811.
