Yes, many of these boats work the Pamlico Sound. It's one of the  
biggest estuaries in the US, but shallow, usually 12-18 feet.

Draft on these boats is likely 4-7 feet. There is enough  
channelization to make sure they reach the deeper water and deep  
water creeks are not unusual. The creek I live on is deeper that the  
rive it drains to--20-25 feet versus 8-10 feet.

I'll try to get better answers.
