friend James Whitlow Delano, a Tokyo-based Leica
photographer. He continues to make a living shooting
film in black and white, using just an M2 and a 35mm
lens. He does his own darkroom work and is a virtuouso
printer. The web images do not do full justice to the
work -- a casual viewer might find his evocative
images to be 'Holga like', but a closer look shows
that he takes full advantage of what the Leica does
best and is in complete control of his craft. His
recent project on the desertification of China is the
cover story for this month's Digital Journalist:

The accompanying articles, one by him and one by Don
Winslow, are worth reading by way of background.
Peter.
