I was just thinking how this is really one of the oldest discussions  
in photo ethics, and not confined to journalism -- remember Ansel  
Adams' early days with Group F64?  They demanded truth in landscape  
photography by maximum depth of field (hence the name of the club)  
and contact printing of their LF negs.  Of course, AA was later known  
to remove a word laid out in rocks on a hillside in one of his  
photos, to add a moon, and to heavily manipulate the look of a scene  
through dodging and burning.

Doug's there too with his theme of natural light, no filtration, no  
catch lights for the eyes, etc.
