Thanks for everyone's help on this. The 8x10 Ektachromes in question here 
are about 3/4 of a stop underexposed, and I need to make prints of tiny 
little sections of them. So I think that a 16-bit drum scan is my best bet, 
and I'm about to send them off to West Coast Imaging.
