If Irish whiskey is desired, I strongly suggest Bushmills Black Bush.

If Scotch whisky is acceptable, I love Laphroaig but I would not say that 
the younger YOs are particularly subtle.  For something similar but a little 
more subtle, consider Lagavulin.
