It is odd, isn't it? In the UK it's gone from being more or less taboo to 
socially acceptable over a relatively short time, maybe 15-20 years.

Breat-feeding a baby is one of the healthiest and most fundamentally  
human activities a woman can engage in. I have always found it  
peculiar that anyone would find it offensive in public.
