This is written up in several Canon technical papers, among other places. That is one reason I have stuck to 2.8 or faster lenses. Second, the minimum focusing distance may be important in some settings. For the 70-200 it is 4.6 feet (!); for the 85mm 1.2 it is 3.2 feet; for the 24-70 it is 1.25 feet. --Bob
