I use the Wimberly head to mount 15 pound long telephotos and heavy zooms. Their standard P-10 to P-50 plates are just fine for that. For that purpose they can't be beat. I also have a couple of custom, removable tripod feet for my 300mm and a couple long Nikon zooms. I don't use ball heads for the heavy stuff. I use Wimberly because you can buy it any place. I believe RRS and Kirk are mail order from their web site. I find Arcaswiss a little costly, but they started the system. I do use a ball head for the light weight stuff, a body and light weight lens only. (not the Arca system).
