It doesn't seem to make sense from a rigidly-consistent-user-interface
point of view, but in actual use it works particularly well -- the big
menu from the "menu" button is the things you're likely to set once and
leave alone until you need to reformat the card.  That little menu the
"set" button brings up is all the things you really might need to tweak
before shooting, and the button's in a convenient place for the left
thumb (which rarely reads labels).

You'll see (once you get a good battery).

I take it you've tried a full charge cycle, however long it took, and it
just didn't stick?  Bummer.
