Then f1.5 was very rare, only a few hundred made in Leica Thread
Mount. I had one about 10 years ago. In buying some Leica gear from a
local fellow, he said, wait a minute, I still have one more lens,
went in the house and came out a few minutes later with the LTM
Nikon. I had no idea of its value then. Went out shooting with it and
got nothing but total blur. Turns out the front element was gone! On
closer inspection, there were still some glass shards in the threads
of the lens mount. Always made me wonder if he had broken in on his
way through the house. I was especially disappointed after some
research showed how rare it is!

A very informative web page on this "most collectible of the Nikon
normals" is at

A couple years ago I sold my 1.5 on eBay, hopefully to someone who
knew how to repair it. $200 was a fair amount for a badly broken lens
and a good indication that a decent example is probably over $1000,
if you could ever find one.
