Thanks for your comments... you DO know that you can click on those 
oversize thumbnails to see bigger images, right?

These photos were shot in very bright midday sunshine so I can 
understand why they might seem a bit washed out.

I usually use curves if I need to correct any color, then some 
Shadow/Highlight and levels adjustment if needed, followed by a bit of 
unsharp masking.
