According to the blurb on the M8 sensor, some sort saturation mode kicks 
in, to lop off the booming highlight to somewhat more reasonable.

rule-of-thumb, if there is one, that digital is as unforgiving of exposure 
errors as slide film.  I do not find that to be true with the DMR.
