I sort of relate to his logic. Since the frame is cropped, one will have to
take a step backward, putting you more at 75mm lens distance than 50mm lens
distance.

How do you figure? The focal length of the 50mm Noctilux isn't going to
change - the crop factor will be the equivalent of a 75 but the lens
performance won't change. It'll be just like it was on the M6 but you
cropped the image.

If people ARE thinking like this they'll be disappointed.
