A member of the Leica Users Group tags all his e-mails with "Keep pushing
that shutter button. It'll come unstuck." This is the best
advice I've heard in a while. Especially when the creative feel has
diminished or just plain disappeared. Maybe just revisiting some
old familiar subjects will inspire you to try a new technique or a fresh
approach. I find myself doing tabletop macro studies this
way. Once I pulled out an old corkscrew with a fancy handle for a subject
and then tried to find some other objects that would echo
its round shape. A marble and a candy gumball were added to the composition.
Then a suitable background had to be found. Some glass
from a picture frame formed a base to add a reflection. Some scraps of
colored paper put accents in the surface of the reflection.
The shutter button came unstuck.
I like table top photo still life pictures. You may have a different
favorite subject. But all you need is a jumpstart. Any thing at
all could be the inspiration. Open your mind to the possibilities and it
will happen.
