You could try a back up (with a car) -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+hoppyman=bigpond.net.au@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+hoppyman=bigpond.net.au@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Jim Nichols Sent: Friday, 8 September 2006 02:54 To: LUG@Leica-Users.org Subject: [Leica] Cleaning a Hard Drive Several days ago there was a thread about cleaning a hard drive before releasing it to salvage. I decided to "clean" a failed Western Digital Caviar drive because Dell is conducting a one-time pick-up of all brands of computer hardware in Nashville on Saturday. I tried the 8-pound hammer approach and was amazed at the toughness of the metal top. Because I did not have a Torx driver small enough to open the case, I hammered it until it split, then put in a vise and used some other tools to distort the disk itself. See the results below.
