So I bought PS Elements 4 for the Mac, and it appears pretty adequate for my needs. Keep in mind that my requirements are modest--I do not use layers, and generally my interventions are limited to cropping, adjusting levels (sometimes using the shadow/highlight tool), sharpening, and cleaning up with the Healing Brush if there was dust on the sensor or on the scanned negative. PSE 4 does let me make all of these adjustments just as easy as the full Photoshop. The only limitations I have run into so far are that the Healing Brush does not work in 16-bit mode (all the other adjustments mentioned above do) and that a couple of my favorite Fred Miranda plugins do not work in Elements. So, while Don and everyone else is right that PS CS2 is the ultimate image-editing program, if your requirements are modest like mine, then you may be better off saving the money and using PSE4. BTW, the RAW converter in PSE4 works just as well as in PS CS. My recent Portugal images were all "developed" in PSE4, since I was doing it on the Powerbook down there every evening.
