I got the D200 because (1) I already have Nikon lenses and (2) it fit my budget. But if the 5D is within your budget, I'd recommend making the switch to the Canon full frame DSLR and not looking back. Oddly, the purchase of the D200 camera has put me now in the "full frame" camp. I set the D200 up, put a 24mm lens on it, and just thought to myself - "I wished this had the same FOV as a 24mm lens on a film camera." And really, that goes for most of my other lenses. I wish I could use the 105/2.5 for people shots at the same working distance as when using a film camera. And so on, and so forth. I picked up the 12-24/4 to go with my D70, but it's heavy (to me), 1 or 2 stops slower than commonly available wide primes, and has pretty bad barrel distortion at the wider focal lengths; so it's not my prefered solution. Wouldn't it be nicer if a 28/2 just "worked like" a 28/2, as it were, or Canon's 24/1.4, and so on. For the "f2.8 is fast" zoom lens shooters, this is not, or is less of, an issue, and I'd probably recommend the nicely built and nicely priced D200. But for prime shooters, the lack of reasonably fast wide primes is a bummer when using an APS sensor. I'm really interested to hear the reactions of Leica M8 buyers when their lovely and dearly priced 28/2 or 35/1.4 take on the FOV of normals instead of the wides they originally purchased. I'm not crying into my beer or anything. The D200 is a pretty cool camera, and like the D70, I think it's a very good value. I'll certainly live :-) Just my 2 cents.
