And yes; even when cropping something like this I try to take compositional issues into account, so if the composition in this case looks less than ideal it's not just due to unavoidable limitations of the basic image. Yup; this purple thing happens along the borders where the image transitions from in-exposure-range to blown-out; we will, I'm sure, soon have a pretty positive ID on the core of the cause.
