You could use the pay per hour approach which can be anything from $100-$250. I've read Wedding Magazines that state you should pay the photographer 10% of the wedding costs. In reality the prices are all over the place. I charge from $1900 - $2700. In CA and NY it can be $3000-$10,000. I photographed my friends wedding last Sept in NY. I was returning the favor since he photographed my wedding. Since this was during the Katrina debacle, he insisted on paying for my time at least. I did not want to take the money but it did cover plane travel and hotel. And the wedding album was on me. I'd say $500 is fair for advanced amateur. Now he's your brother so he should run screaming out of the house and only return after agreeing not to photograph the wedding :) Or perhaps there's a lens/second body that is needed for the wedding????
