It started late Monday afternoon and we spotted it shortly after it got going, while having a picnic with assorted nieces, grandnieces, grand nephews and grand children - out at Leighton Lake. The smoke billowed up and where it drifted in front of the white clouds it turned a brilliant red, easy to see from miles away. This red showed in the viewfinder, but when the digital images were 'developed', the red was almost impossible to see. I have managed to bring some of it out, by increasing saturation and playing with the contrast, etc.... but now the trees look fake, and the redness in the clouds is still nowhere near what we saw. http://www3.telus.net/telyt/FF_1.htm You can see the black smoke rising on the right, but the reddish bit about 1/3 in from the right at tree top level is all that I could get to show. BTW: The red trees are not a mistake. We have a huge problem with pine beetles killing the trees (locally simply called "bugwood"), which exacerbates the fire situation, tremendously. However, increasing saturation, trying to get the clouds to show has made them redder than in real life. What am I doing wrong? How do I get this red in the clouds to show as it does in real life? Any and all help appreciated.
