OK, Peter: vs. Roark's curve. I just did a test with the same paper (and 
inks and printer of course). The supposedly Roark's Neutral Curve is quite 
magenta. The QuadtoneRIP Neutral has a small hint of magenta. The 
difference is quite large. Tonal wise, the Roark's curve opens up some 
shadow areas that don't look good at all, but otherwise, it's also very nice.

I suspect the final differences would be fairly small once and if I figure 
out the magenta problem and the shadow problems

No, I am not making my own profiles (yet). I am using the Photo Rag and 
both the QuadtoneRIP and the Roark's curves support it directly.

For now, QuadtoneRIP seems to be the way to go for me.
