Lew,
Probably the easiest way is to look at the distance scale, the macro has
another scale on the bottom of the lens as it mounts upside down when using
the macro adapter.  Of course the macro 90 is an F4 lens and the last 90 F4
non macro was several decades ago so an older looking lens or a serial
number in the 2M range would also be a dead give away.
