It really shouldn't be left out , there's stuff in there from cultures you've probably never even heard of, a couple of other museums have now been renovated and are reopened, but still, parts of the Museumsinsel still looks as if the Soviet troops have only just left, bulletholes everywhere. There's a great flea market there too, and the Berliner Dom can't be missed, really- it's enormous. The photo doesn't really do the temple justice, you walk into the room and you are immediately completely overwhelmed at the size of it, which is unfortunate because that museum is full of other fascinating booty form those colonial pirates, smugglers, pillagers, hunters and gatherers who called themselves Archaeologists or Egyptologists. Berlin now has a flair all of its own, totally unlike Paris or London, friendly, laid-back and mostly without the high capital city prices you'd expect in restaurants and cafes. Public transport is fantastic, the best being the S-Bahn, on raised tracks through most of the city, buses are ok, but, as in just about any other big city, you have no idea of either the routes or what's on the destination boards, though buying a day ticket and just jumping on the next bus is fun. By the way thanks to everyone who took a look so far, there's some more in the pipeline when I get around to it. regards to all Douglas Philippe Orlent wrote: > About the Pergamon: I knew I missed an important museum when I was in > Berling last year. > Damn, this place alone is worth returning to it. > > Thanks for showing, > Philippe > > > > Op 25-apr-06, om 00:52 heeft Douglas Sharp het volgende geschreven: > >> A couple of shots from a dreary day in Berlin - a bit touristy >> >> This old bloke stands around at the Brandenburger Tor to let Germans >> know they used to have a Kaiser >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/New-Old-Pictures/CRW_0368_edited_1 >> >> A little lost in a back street, the rebuilt Synagogue (and a bit >> hard to >> shoot, the street is pretty narrow and the building is tall, I must buy >> a shift lens one day) >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/New-Old-Pictures/CRW_0392_edited_1 >> >> Dull weather at the Brandenburger Tor >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/New-Old-Pictures/CRW_0365_edited_1 >> >> The Pergamon Temple (in the Pergamon Museum) arguably the most >> wonderful >> museum in Berlin >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/New-Old-Pictures/CRW_0389_edited_3 >> >> Another bit of stolen art in the Pergamon Museum >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/New-Old-Pictures/CRW_0387_edited_3 >> >> There's one in every museum a "Now listen here - No photography!" bloke >> (much too late - haha) >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/New-Old-Pictures/CRW_0384_edited_3 >> >> The place is worth a visit - even nicer when the sun shines >> Douglas >> >> >> >> _______________________________________________ >> Leica Users Group. >> See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information >> > > > _______________________________________________ > Leica Users Group. > See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information >
