No picture tells the entire story. But every picture should say something. 
Just like there are different forms of the written word -- poetry, dialog 
and narrative -- I think there are different types of visual communication.  
Some photographs can benefit from added text and some should transcend text. 
(I think it's a mistake to lump everything into one big bucket.)

One of my writing instructors hated the use of clich?s, but I say variety is 
the spice of life. :-). When someone says to stay between the lines, I ask, 
who's lines?
