Subject: [Leica] WWII veteran (OT Gear)

Both of these (but more so the first one- the one where the subject 
looks away) have an intriguing illusion- each time I look, the image 
very briefly seems to move slightly closer (or perhaps the veteran seem 
to move toward the window), creating a feeling of being drawn in. Does 
this happen for anyone else? I've had this sense before from certain 
paintings, but I do not recall other photographs that do it.
I quite like the effect, also the tonality and the way the landscape 
appears like an abstraction of the theme.
