A couple of things:

First, I like your choice of subjects; there's a lot of potential there.

Second, I would suggest working on shooting people from the front.  I  
know how awkward that can feel, at first, but if you work at it, and  
are patient you will get some pleasing results.  If necessary, tell  
them what you are doing and ask their permission.  It also helps to  
hang out for a while, let people get used to seeing you.

Third, I would try a slower speed film.  I think you can shoot with a  
IIIf at "very" slow speeds with 400ASA film and still get very  
acceptable results.  From the looks of your photos, there's more than  
ample available light.
