Sorry Lew,
My suspicious manner these days about the internet and those in the
"information gathering community!" Leaves me rather gun shy! Please accept
my apologies for my rather blunt in your face previous post.

The only thing I do when filing B&W negs from assignments is in 7 strip
slide pages with a contact sheet filed in three ring binders. During contact
editing when a frame is selected it's red edge marked on the sheet and the
neg is clipped along the bottom edge for quick Identification in the
darkroom when printing.

Each contact page and roll of negs are marked by year, assignment and roll
number. When identifying a print we add the negative number. In other words
as archaic as this is to the young lads and lasses with "software" in
computers it worked, some how. ;-),

It would be "61"- year - "45" - assignment - "32" roll number of those used
on the assignment- "2" neg number.

As in 61-45-32-2 would be written on the back of the print indentifying it
for future prints if necessary.

Slides were 20 slides to the page in 3 ring binders by countries, subject or
use in lectures. That was about it. Always time consumming searching, but
after a while it was... "Yeah it's in about the middle of the book!" ;-)
when we'd be looking for a slide later.;-) The worst part of this routine
was clearing the light table 8'X4' size in a hurry and slides being filed in
the right book, however not necessarily the right pages. :-) We always ran
into... "It's in there I know because I re-filed it!" Yeah 12 pages away
from where it was supposed to be. ;-) but some how it worked. ;-)

Now with computers? Well we have about the same archaic fashion using the
same numbering system, so that's why "software" really doesn't come into
play. Besides I'm not the brightest star when it comes to things like this.
I just want to take pictures and let someone else worry about the paper
work, filing, sorting and numbers. :-)

So there you go mate, ;-) I hope this helps, if nothing else it'll point out
the good guidance of software wisdom we've already seen posted is in the
hands of the younger folks. Well Ok a few older guys and gals in there also.
;-)
