I used a gray card for metering when conditions warranted, but 99% of the time, I just shot my Nikons using straight metering. Never a problem. I regularly shoot chromes with my late-Wetzlar M6 and have never had a problem with the metering provided by the camera. Hell, I often shoot chromes on my M3 using an MR-4 Leicameter, and, again, I have no problem with the metering. I love chromes and I love printing them via Ilfochrome though I've yet to figure out how to scan a slide and get it to come out decently. But an 8 by 10 Ilfocrhome print will scan most wonderfully. I have Kodachrome slides of my parents shot in 1948 which are still vibrant and alive, and those were shot on an Argus Brick, for heaven's sakes.
