The CRT standard that was 640 x 480 gradually evolved, with the
change of monitor sizes, and has become 1024 x 768, related to a 17"
monitor.

Those who work in the imaging business, and have larger monitors/
screen sizes, typically video professionals, photographers, DTP
specialist and engineers work with more pixels 1280 x 1024 or even
1600 x 1200 to be able to more finely tune (in Photoshop) and obtain
more detail/clarity in FCP.

With the steady arrival, in Europe (already racing ahead in
California + and Australia), the 16:9 format may change everything
again, as Didier says (I skipped ahead to catch-up). However, since
not everyone has the need of two monitors, then you only need to
decide which resolution suits your work best ........... and pick the
appropriate monitor CRT/LCD, size of workspace,
quality ............... and price!

That's my contribution.
