Which version? The third version's hood is not bad as long as you get  
the later one with the viewfinder portal.

I find most Leica lens caps a little lacking in tenacity. I use the  
old Canon caps for my Leica E55 lenses. They only come off when you  
take them off. The Leica A42 slip-on caps are fine. I haven't found a  
great replacement for the E46 cap on a 35/1.4A. While the Leica E46  
cap works well on the 50/1.4A, it significantly overhangs the front  
of a 35/1.4A. The Contact G series E46 cap is only marginally better  
in that it doesn't overhang but it is still willing to let go at the  
least provocation. Some of the new "Zeiss" M lenses use E46 filters  
but their caps look like Vivitar rejects. Still worth a look I suppose.
