Thanks to the internet I am now a happy screwmount owner. Dennis
Painter kindly let me buy his IIIg and Kevin Cameras, via the auction
site that dare not say its name, sent me a pretty darn nice 50/2.8. I
am off to a car show with my son this weekend so I will burn a few
rolls and see how it goes.

Initial impressions? I can see why screwmount sales fell off
dramatically once the M was introduced. Rotating dials, whirrs and
clicks, two dials needed to select slower speeds and loading that is
quaint to say the least. You may think I am complaining but I am
actually delighted with the set up. The IIIg's finder may not be as
good as an M's finder but it is a definite cut above just about
anything else out there. Focusing is crisp and positive but without
the sharp edges that are helpful in M cameras.

The camera and lens combo fit comfortably into the Leica small soft
case that was designed for an M camera with the 50/2.8M -- which were
always a bit of squeeze. Now I just have to find a strap to suit and
I am away to the races.
