I had rubeola and was as sick as a dog. Well, Mom (an RN) heard me making noises (I was an extremely quiet baby) and came in to find me blue. She didn't drive, so she had to call a taxi post haste to get me to L.A. County Hospital. She was preparing to give me a trach with a paring knife in the back of the taxi, but decided against it. In the ER, they gave me a trach very, very quickly. So my scar is pretty....BIG. You speak of 9 lives, they treated me with Chloramphenicol, figuring that I would die anyway.
