Jim,
yes, it's really strange, if the original tone is neutral grey it stays 
that way, pure white turns black, but black and darker shades of grey
remain the same shade. It looks really weird when there's some sky in 
the shot - it turns negative (!?!) and the rest of the shot stays more 
or less as it was.
