Well, I'm no expert either, but this has worked recently for me: In 
photoshop, resize the image to 300dpi, make sure it is the size you want or 
larger ie print size 11 x 14 and take it to the shop. I think their software 
will cope with the resizing of the final result when it's smaller. For some 
images, I've used 150dpi and go ok results.
