Hello Peter,
the NYMR are runnibg a service 3 times a day 3 times a week from Whitby
to Glaisdale in the Esk Valley (wonderful scenery!!), there are plans to
get steam hauled traffic up as far as Battersby, and, much later as far
as the North East Mainline routes at Middlesbrough. Further planning is
under way to make a link to the coast to coast (trans-pennine route at
Malton (change for Scarborough,York, Leeds Manchester and Liverpool) but
that is in it's earliest stages. Interestin is that the Trans-Pennine
and Arriva (the local PTOs )drivers have started taking steam driving
and firemans courses, and both of these companies are offering joint
tickets along with the NYMR.
The past definitely has a future - passenger figures have risen
enormously since steam was reintroduced.

BTW, the effects in the background of the Scotsman in York are the
remains of trying to rescue a totally screwed up shot, the exposure was
way off, there was an ugly colour cast and the weather was dull and dreary.
I'm still working on trying to get a decent colour version of it.
