Praying it turns out to be Leica rather than Nikonos. Best, Jim -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+jshul=comcast.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+jshul=comcast.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Jeffery Smith Sent: Sunday, August 28, 2005 5:20 PM To: 'Leica Users Group' Subject: RE: [Leica] OT NOLA Katrina I feel safer than someone in London during WWII, and safer than just about any American in Baghdad. Perspective is what I have to keep. The boombox takes too much juice. I bought a Panasonic radio in 1978 for hurricane use only. I just took it out of its box, put 4 "C" cells in it, and had my jaw drop when it did nothing after I hit the "on" switch. Like a "78" Mustang that had never been driven, it very slowly started making a noise. Over the course of a minute, it sounds like a radio. But the special "weather" channel that is supposed to keep me abreast of the storm has apparently been long abandoned for a different frequency. Nothing coming from it. Right now, it's darker, raining, but not much worse than any rainstorm in NOLA. After all, this is New Orleans. Jeffrey, Do you have: 1. Extra batteries for the boombox, as well as at least three days' worth of tunes? 2. Enough scotch to reanimate Hunter Thompson? 3. Several coolers of po'boys, or crawfish, or whatever else will fill the pangs? Dodge the rain, and keep the youth out of harm's way. Party and stay safe. I can't leave my wife behind, and she has faith in God that we'll be safe. I don't see any of us dying. We may lose a roof, but we are on high ground (relatively speaking). I'm below sea level, but I have a second floor. The problem with evacuating is that the freeway is moving at 5 mph and there is very little gasoline anywhere down here. If I lived anywhere else in New Orleans, I'd have left. Most of my neighbors have no cars and cannot leave. There is Live Oak Middle School about 8 blocks from here. If I lose my roof, we will probably trudge down there. Keeping my fingers crossed. Don't try to second guess Mother Nature! Certainly this time. Why! Simply because we are experiencing weather conditions around the planet like never in the past or as violent these days. Quite often fooling even the most experienced weathermen and their electronic gadgets. In the event you stay and as callous as this may sound under the circumstances...... make sure you get pictures! Certainly without endangering yourself. May the Great Spirit give you and family comfort and safety. ted _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
