Tina,

After reading your problem statement again I got to thinking about the
condition of the power into your computer.

Where do you plug in your computer and peripherals? What else is on
that circuit? Do you have a surge protector/line conditioner? Do you
know that it works and that the over voltage protection is working the
way it should or has it blow and now your copier or the air
conditioning is sending along high-voltage spikes to drive your
computer a bit batty. Dell's are known for crappy power supplies.

You MIGHT consider buying a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) that
has complete isolation between the input A/C side and the output A/C
side. You're in an area that has lots of electrical storms and perhaps
the power lines themselves are contributing to your problem. You'd be
looking at $200+ for one of these puppies but it would ensure that the
juice getting to your computer wn't have 100,000 volt spikes floating
on it.

Brian might have a thought on this suggestion.

Adam
