Eric,
Yes, I was talking about distilled water for all the steps except for
the wash step.  Mixing a five litre batch of Xtol is only five litres,
pre-soak is only a litre, the fix is already mixed and filtered before
and after every use, another litre to remove the fix and last a litre
for the photo-flo.  A gallon of distilled water is less than a dollar
and time spent spotting is definately worth more than a dollar.

I must admit that I had not thought about the gray scum in the tank as
a source.  Well, a thorough scrub is in order then a little more Acros
to see about the small specs of crud.
