Hi Daniel,
Helen and I are just "back" from Krakow and had a wonderful time. As
far as hotels, you should book: we had a lot of trouble finding one,
though in the end we were very happy. The better hotels close in to the
centre seem to fill very quickly. We ended up staying in the old Jewish
quarter. Krakow is not that big and getting around from there was fine,
but I would not stay outside the central zones unless you had to. We
arrived by train from Prague. The station is being renovated and the
area around it is therefore a bit less "inviting". I would go straight
to the source and ask Stanislaw who was on the list at the LUG for some
time, and is part of FOM2: he designed the homepage layout etc. Stan
loves his city and lives right in the centre. If like me you have no
"polish", then a local is a must when it comes to finding bus stops to
take you to the surrounding country etc. Drop him a line at:

dizel@neostrada.pl

and tell him I "sent" you.

Now as for the other information. Hamburg I can attest is a wonderful
"photographic" city. The place crawls with galleries. Great spot and
fun for several days. Warsaw was not on our list: I think you would do
better spending more time in Krakow and the surrounding areas including
the mountains and Austwich -- the latter is deserving of at least on
full day and is easily reached on a bus.

Cheers and let me know if we can help.
