Needless to say, I was highly disappointed to have spent my money on all the travel, the tickets, and the food to get a non-competitive, six car race. Doubly so now that it looks like no refund is coming. Nonetheless, I spent three days camping in a festive atmosphere, got to see F1 cars practice and qualify - and, indeed line up as if they were going to race (the most insulting part of the process to me), and I took photos. So here are a few shots I took with my Leicon d100: As a fan there are few spots to get clear shots of the cars. Usually there are safety fences in the way - but I tried my hand at some action shots. I have a load of shots behind the fences but I will only share a couple car shots since they are quite boring to those who don't follow motorsports: Mclaren around a corner http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1004-full.html Red Bull pulling into the pits http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1007-full.html Then this happened - was this the moment of truth for my weekend? http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1000-full.html I wish I had known that this shot was foreshadowing - back into the paddock http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1001-full.html How I should have shot car photos http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1008-full.html And now, some fan shots: Juan Pablo Montoya brings *many* lively and colorful Columbians to the US race http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1006-full.html I am not a fan of the Ferrari race team, but they sure are a hell of a lot of fun to capture on non-film Ferrari Pope -- http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1002-full.html Ferrari Monkey -- http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1003-full.html Ferrari Hat -- http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1010-full.html But in the end, it was an empty victory even for Ferrari fans http://dmason.net/F1/files/page0-1005-full.html Perhaps the next time I go to see a race I'll make it a small county dirt track where they slap on last year's Goodyears and cross their fingers that they hold together. You might think I regret having gone all the way from Chapel Hill, NC to Indianapolis, IN but while I was there I had the oportunity to mark off one more tick on "LUG members I have met" list - Frank Dernie is a charming and brilliant man and a true pleasure to meet in person. Pretty much par for the course in terms of the LUG members I have met so far. Dave
