There are few alive today who have seen the sights you have viewed, from C?sar's crossing the Rubincon to Wolfe's somewhat inept victory outside of Quebec, not to mention your presence at the defeat of the Armada and your presence besides Nelson at Copenhagen when he drew his spyglass to his blind eye. You are a true gem and are to be cherished for your virtues. (I have not touched on the negatives in your career, though my private investigator keeps suggesting that I metnion the occasion when you spent a dalliance with ... well, we shan't go there, or the time when you and Bismark almost got yourselves tossed in jail over that Peruvian mine scheme, and what about that 1903 problem with the Rafflex Hotel in Singapore? And I don't find your debauching the Princess Eulalie of much import, especially as this occurred long before your marriage and, at this long remove ... A speckled past you do have.) You are also one of the finest aucteurs of the optical art I have ever encountered, and I especially respect you for continuing in this into your late middle age, when many would have retired. You are a Canadian national treasure, if you will allow this guy from "South of the Border" to so opine. Now, tell us the true tale of yourself and the Duchess of Waverley in 1893, please! We all realize that you were driven a-gley by love and lust, but, still, history demands that you tell the full tale and, after all, Enquiring Minds Want To Know! And whatever did happen to the Naval Treaty she was carrying? Happy Birthday, and many more to follow! Marc msmall@aya.yale.edu Cha robh b?s fir gun ghr?s fir! NEW FAX NUMBER: +540-343-8505
